IIoT & Connected Manufacturing
Unified Namespace moves from idea to architectural default
Processing magazine makes the case for Unified Namespace as an increasingly important architectural pattern that organises operational information into a real-time, contextualised representation of the factory, letting manufacturers move past point-to-point integration between disconnected systems.
UNS is a data-contract decision, not a product purchase. Agree the namespace before anyone buys a broker.
Automation & Controls
CSIA: connected automation is now an electrical safety issue
The Control System Integrators Association argues that connected automation systems now belong in maintenance and safety planning, not only in IT's risk register, because a cybersecurity failure on a connected control system can present as an electrical safety incident.
If OT security is not in your arc-flash and lockout planning, your risk register has a hole in it.
Edge Computing & Inference
ADI buys Alif Semiconductor for $1.35 billion
Analog Devices is acquiring Alif Semiconductor in a $1.35 billion deal that pairs ADI's analog sensing with Alif's low-power AI processors. EE Times calls it another edge-AI leap of faith, aimed at pushing inference into physical systems.
Sensing and inference silicon are consolidating. Expect fewer, larger vendors in your edge bill of materials.
Robotics & Cobots
Comau automates picking and palletizing for Decathlon
Comau has deployed a picking, handling and palletizing system for retailer Decathlon. The Robot Report says it incorporates Comau's MyCo cobot, a ROS2 software architecture, AI-powered vision systems and a modular gripper.
ROS2 in a production retail-logistics cell is the signal here: open middleware is clearing procurement.
Smart Manufacturing & Digital Twin
One manufacturer ran 100 digitalization initiatives at once
Panelists from Siemens, A1 Digital, Mestec and HiveMQ described a manufacturer that ran 100 digitalization initiatives simultaneously, with money leaving the company before anyone asked which produced results. Their argument: production directors, not IT, should own factory digitalization.
Ownership decides the outcome. If IT leads digitalization, expect projects that survive audit but not the line.
Process Technology
VTUG-EX valve terminal extends Fieldbus into Class I, Division 2
Chemical Engineering reports that the new VTUG-EX valve terminal addresses hazardous-area automation by extending Fieldbus connectivity into Class I, Division 2 areas.
Networked valve control in Division 2 removes one of the last reasons to keep hazardous areas hard-wired.

Teradyne sues JAKA over three Universal Robots patents
Teradyne Robotics has sued cobot maker JAKA over three Universal Robots patents. The Robot Report says newly surfaced detail shows the claims cover robot interfaces, safety brakes and joints.
Cobot IP litigation is a supply risk. Check whether your low-cost arm is named before you standardise on it.
